VOLUNTEERING

Operating with a paid staff of eight (four full-time), David's House depends on its volunteers to keep things running smoothly. There are many talents you can share as a volunteer. For additional information about volunteer opportunities, contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Rochelle Berliner. For your convenience, you may download our volunteer application.

Below are some of the interests and skills that benefit David's House:

House Assistant - The majority of volunteers are needed to greet and welcome guests, take reservations, orient new guests to the house, answer telephones, manage the house when staff is not on duty and help provide a warm home-like atmosphere for guests.

Baking and Cooking - Baking provides a warm home atmosphere to guests. Volunteers may bake cookies, brownies, cakes or individual specialties while on duty at the house, or bring baked goods from home for the guests. Some offer their baking talents for special events, including fund raisers.

Child Care - On some occasions, child care is needed for siblings when it is necessary for parents to provide full attention to a child in the Medical Center. This can be an "on call" service or may be a willingness to entertain a child while on duty as a house assistant.

Clerical Skills - Help is always needed with mailings, thank you notes, computer entry and historical updates.

Committees - Additional help is needed on committees that provide guidance for the operation of the house: Finance, Personnel, Policy, Planning Special Events, Development, Building and Grounds.

Communication - Such as newsletter writing or editing, calligraphy, public speaking, sign language and photography.

Maintenance - Services can be provided through household repair, room and common area cleaning, gardening, mowing and general care of David's House grounds.
