The Building...
The first David's House was a homey old Victorian house near downtown Hanover within walking distance of the original Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. When the hospital expanded and moved to its new campus a few miles away in Lebanon, David's House had to expand to meet the needs of the new hospital. The families being served identified another important need--to remain within walking distance.
Many families, volunteers and
supporters of David's House were worried that something important--the
homey "grandma's house" spirit of the original house--would
be lost or diluted with the expansion and move to a new building.
The new David's House was designed from the ground up to retain
that spirit. It was designed in the spirit of a large old New
England farmhouse--non-institutional and non-motel-like.

The entry view minimizes the apparent
size and emphasizes the victorian gingerbread farmhouse look to
avoid an institutional or hospital-related appearance.

It is only from the rear that, despite the farmhouse look, one can appreciate how much space is in David's House.
